Lion's Mane and SSRIs (General): Interaction Overview
Lion's Mane promotes neuroplasticity via NGF and BDNF upregulation and has mild anti-inflammatory properties.
Mechanism of Interaction
Lion's Mane promotes neuroplasticity via NGF and BDNF upregulation and has mild anti-inflammatory properties. Its mechanism does not involve serotonergic pathways, and no significant CYP450 interactions have been documented. Some animal studies suggest Lion's Mane may have mild antidepressant effects via BDNF, which could theoretically be complementary to SSRIs, but this has not been studied in humans.
Recommendation
Generally considered safe to combine. Some users on SSRIs report enhanced mood stability when adding Lion's Mane. Nonetheless, always inform your prescribing doctor about new supplements.
